In 1935, when Harold D. Smith opened the doors of Smith Hardware, it began with the philosophy of giving its customers what they wanted. Horse collars, cotton scales, belly bands, pitch forks and cast iron skillets were all standard stock at the time. Started in a small building off the town square in Decatur, Georgia, Smith saw the growth the city was experiencing and the need for a hardware store that could be a vital part of that growth.
Location, product lines and personnel have changed in the last 70 years, but not so Smith’s attitude toward its customers.
